We explored all around station 2 with the disco light show going and drove the tunnels. It is amazing how close to the convention center entrances each escalator is located. No long walks to mass transit any more.

The water table is quite high in Vegas, and these tunnels are 20′ below that. So the Boring machines have to work against that water pressure, while sealing the tunnel tight behind them as they go. Between the water and the very hard rock, this project was a great proof point all around, including on time delivery and >10x cost savings savings over the alternatives. Next stop: connecting to nearby hotels and then the Vegas Loop (as seen on the map, below).

Next up: with today’s vote at the SBCTA, the Ontario Airport Loop in the LA area (see map). They came in >10x cheaper and 2.5x faster to build than the light rail alternative. “For now, the proposal involves using electric vehicles with rubber tires traveling up to 127 mph from point to point” — News

I have personally experienced 116 MPH in the tunnel, and with autopilot, it should be more safe than humans.

Ontario Airport Loop, unanimously approved today by the county to proceed“This is one of the most important transportation corridors in all of Southern California,” said Metrolink CEO Stephanie Wiggins. “The Ontario Airport Loop creates tremendous opportunities to create convenient access between ONT and Los Angeles County, eastern San Bernardino County and, really, the region as a whole. We’re thrilled to see this project move a step closer and that Metrolink will be a key connection in that effort.” — Mass Transit News

  2. Working on it! Gary is one fast snail! Compared to the Boring Machine that is. The Teslas beat Gary handily.

P.S. TV crews took a look: CNBC and Fox.
