Congratulations to MAPS and to PSFC on this historic $30mm fundraise to bring MDMA through clinical trials to treat PTSD, a disorder currently affecting over 8 million people in the U.S. alone. Sadly, 7-10% of the U.S. population will experience PTSD at some point in their life.
This work also opens the door to using other psychedelics to treat a whole host of debilitating mental disorders like depression, addiction, anxiety, and eating disorders.
The data speaks for itself:
For patients in the trial who suffered from serious PTSD (for an average of 18 years prior!), two-thirds no longer qualified as having PTSD after only three MDMA-assisted psychotherapy sessions. And this success rate was measured a year after the treatment ended. Wow.
The more common approach to dealing with PTSD is daily SSRI pill-popping (Zoloft, Paxil, etc.), so this would be a real breakthrough for those who suffer.
We are honored to be a part of a group of philanthropists that includes folks from the right, the left, and everything in between. It’s hopeful that in a time of so much political divisiveness, that we can put aside our differences and come together to bring about healing and positive change for one another. Over 2,500 donors participated in this fundraise!
Major kudos to our wonderful friends Joe Green and Graham Boyd, founders of PSFC, and podcast-lord Tim Ferriss, for their extraordinary fundraising and evangelism work, and to Rick Doblin (founder of MAPS) for working tirelessly on this effort from the time I was in diapers (a very, very long time ago!). Talk about dedication to a cause.
Thank you also to our dear friends who donated, I so appreciate you.
