I started using flickr as part of the due diligence process for an investment (they sold to Yahoo instead). But I was hooked. I was new to photography at the time, and all I had was a Casio pocket camera. I focused on what it can do best (close-up macro photography) and what I could uniquely bring (geeky subjects and rocket launches). For Christmas 2005, I got my first SLR camera (Canon 5D), and I expanded a bit… but it was still mostly geeky stuff and rockets.

Here are some of the early favorites from the flickr community and all of my photo albums.

  2. Brings back lots of photonic memories =)

  3. Interesting that you say its "hard to fathom" 50 million vews. The human mind does not have the processing power to properly understand and recognize any number beond 10,000. Your vew count is considerably larger than that! Congratulations, and here’s to 50 more!

  4. Congrats. Keep those photos coming. I enjoy your photo stream!

  5. Maybe you should by flickr Steve?

  6. Yes we do need someone to keep Flickr alive! Whoever buys Yahoo’s online operations might not want to maintain it…

  7. Like the commenters above, I wonder what will become of Flickr as Yahoo continues towards oblivion. Seems like all of the momentum these days is with Instagram, and yet Instagram does not offer nearly the same versatility as Flickr.
