with strange lighting straight out of the underwater cam, not sure why

  1. Light meter adjusting for the blinding whiteness of the snow probably caused the effect… Light meters are based on a "neutral gray", which corresponds roughly to Caucasian skin tone. An "old fashioned" photographer would have probably opened up a couple of F-stops to make the snow a true white. Digital photography has much, much more exposure latitude than old emulsions did, this picture probably wouldn’t have turned out so well with Kodachrome.
