When I held the device against my teeth, I could hear what they were saying (via bone conduction), and they could hear me. The kit comes with two, so you can swap for a recharged one every 10 hours.

How far away were they when you could hear them in your bones?
It has a RF to magnetic coupler to drive the signal, so it’s not distance limited; in this case, the other person was on a Motorola walkie talkie.
