and our tour of SpaceX and the Tesla Design Center (below)

We learned that the shuttle had 6000 ground crew per launch at the Cape; SpaceX does it with 35. They just released the Johnny Cash version of Grasshopper, with new hover footage from last week.
Elon is unveiling it right now at SXSW in Austin. The tip of the 10-gallon hat to Texas was quite topical. The engine testing and Grasshopper hopping takes place in McGregor Texas, and Elon was testifying to the Texas House of Representatives on Friday regarding SpaceX’s plans to build an orbital launch complex at the southernmost tip of Texas. Here are the SpaceX photos I took during our Texas tour.
And then we dropped in on Franz and the Telsa new product design studio, where they are working on things like the Model X… This is the supercharger station outside, with SolarCity panels on the roof.

While we were there, a couple Model S customers dropped by for a free charge at 300V and 220A.
Back on the beach…

Damn, if I knew you were going to be hanging out a few blocks away from my house I would’ve started circling the area in my ModelS in the hopes of getting your attention 🙂
That used to swing my head, but I see them so often now. I saw four this morning just on the drive to pick my son up from the SAT test.

At this point I think that’s more of a Bay area phenomenon – they’re a little rarer on the ground down here… but not for much longer I suspect!
For someone my age it is mind blowing and encouraging to find a Sikh in Silicon Valley instead of driving a two decker bus in London.

P.S. I added some new text and links to my first comment above.
Hermosa beach…sweet memories, as my aunt used to live there on The Strand on the side where Manhattan beach starts. I believe not too far from where these shots were taken.
