Amalienburg’s Hall of Mirrors

This hunting lodge constructed in 1739 by François de Cuvilliés for the Holy Roman Emperor Charles VII and his wife, Maria Amalia of Austria. I am standing in the kennel room for the hunting dogs, equally ornate, but with cute little cubby holes built into the walls. The ceremony of finding the meat appears to be quite important to them… =)

With echoes of bling reverberating in each mirror, Amalienburg is a masterpiece from the climax of European rococo.

  1. Even the kitchen is a Delft tile bling-o-rama.

Each tile is unique, but the tiles were installed in the wrong order, as we noticed in the biblical section, with Noah’s ark mixed up in Genesis. But hey, that is just as likely as the original. =)

Even more peculiar, the tile for "Adam and Eve" shows the apple tree and snake…
    and two buxom ladies. Nice.
