The finger is pointing just below Margaret Thatcher, but the ones that caught my eye are surrounding hers — Apollo astronauts Wally Schirra and Gene Cernan.

  2. What a fantastic room!

  3. Impressive, i noticed some sort of tape across the wrist watch of the hand in top pic. For anti-static reasons? or to prevent debris from contaminating equipment (if it were to break)?

  4. Good eye. I was wondering if someone would notice that. They made up put tape over rings and watch faces and tie strings to glasses to prevent FOD from falling in….like a diamond falling out of a wedding ring. That makes sense when flights were forthcoming… and if we were just walking on without luggage. But I had a backpack full of camera gear and loose odds and ends, and well, that they just didn’t have a protocol for any of that. As fate would have it, as I was setting up the pano rig, a knob fell off in a way I had not anticipated and went rattling off below the commander’s seat. My eyes went big as I looked at my escort to the flight deck. Doh! Luckily, it was easy to find and recover.

P.S. I just remembered that I have John Young’s Apollo White Room badge, and for Gemini, the white room encased the capsule.

  5. EveryScape has finished the stitching of my fisheye shots into a virtual tour. Before you start, remember to click the full screen button in the bottom right corner of the main image. Then you can click on the image and drag to look up down and all around. When you see an orange arrow, you can zoom to the neighboring room. OK here is the VR tour of Endeavour, starting with this White Room.

And here’s a flickr post showing what the input images looked like for the flight deck and links to the other areas.
