I am looking forward to the April 20 launch and ISS berthing, as 2012 is the Year of the Dragon.

  1. Boys and their toys.
April 20 will be a great day in space.

  2. I’m sooooo Jealous. How cool is that??
4/20 will indeed be a great day. Fly well Dragon and Falcon and return home safe.

  3. Awesome Steve, is there a public viewing opportunity for the launch?

  4. Good question. Like Shuttle launches at the Cape, there would be usual free viewing from a distance. The locations on the buildings, like OSB II, are inherently limited.

  5. …but beautiful… Exhibit A….

That was a puzzle post… The identity of this curiosity is down in the comments below

  6. Nice shade of blue here…lucky you!

  7. Claustrophobics abstain.

  8. Wow!
I had no idea it was so close – that’s just a few weeks away!

  9. The ultimate home theater set up.

  10. For that home away from home celestial theater… =)

Launch date is looking good for April 30. I’ll be out there to shoot the launch. Thinking about renting a 800mm lens… But boy is that a heavy beast.

Live webcast should be available at spacex.com/webcast like the prior launches.

    And then… hopefully…

  11. You have the 100-400L and you can slap on a 2X extender. It would be lighter than the 70-200L. Besides, mass = stability ;^)

  12. Hmmm….. good idea… I’d lose a couple f-stops, but that’s OK. Will autofocus work with that setup?

  13. I forgot about focusing… ooops.

  14. Did you consider a 6 inch reflecting telescope on a dobsonian mount ? Its bulky but very light and manuverable. An F/6 model would gve you 900 mm FL. The rocket will go straight up so its an easy movement for the dobsonian mount.

  15. Do you think they’d every bring a journalist with them? Would die for the chance. Hopefully not literally.

  16. Katie – Oh yes. The longer we wait, the safer and cheaper it will get. When I saw this, I just had to explore

and then Gwynne gave us a pre-flight orientation, to point out some of the safety features of our spacecraft. =)

The safety belts are by G-Force Racing, the seats custom molded with the name stitched on.
