With so many biotech companies that DNA ordered by 11pm arrives the next morning, delivered locally by minivan.

  1. Pfeiffer Beach (manganese garnet)?

  2. Impressive mini-cliff – nice colors and composition.

  3. thanks! ’tis a magical place.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/physicsman] – It’s the beach below the La Jolla biotech mecca (just North of San Diego). They have 2.8x as many biotech companies up there as the next biggest node, South San Francisco.

But you have a very good eye as to the similarity to Pfeffer! I was thinking similar thoughts, as Pfeffer was the first place I have seen such sand:

    color and texture

  4. Thanks for the puzzle. It is magnificent!
The stair also looks like a piece from Maurits Cornelis Escher’s painting. google "Maurits Cornelis Escher image" will see more if interested.

    Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson:
"He had become one of the first twenty people in the world to have all of the genes of his cancer tumor as well as of his normal DNA sequenced. It was a process that, at the time, cost more than $100,000."
Hope one of the biotech companies will take few zeros out of that medical fee so that it could be affordable to the loved ones of the cancer fighting families around the world.

  5. You don’t need a biotech company to deliver DNA quickly, unless of course you’d like a specific sequence. La Jolla is beautiful, always makes me think of the Lorax.

  6. Did they deforest the hills? And yes, specific DNA sequence orders, manufacturd overnight.

ChuCiLiSao – just so happens that the investment I am working on now is specifically aimed at reducing the cost of a complete human genome sequence to $100.

  7. OH WOW!!!
    Thank you!!!

  8. I haven’t seen any brown Bar-ba-Loots in their Bar-ba-Loot suits there. However, down in the village there are many Thneed stores where the Oncelers shop.

Did anyone ever win the Archon X Prize?

  9. A fine piece of landscape!

  10. (To me) Looks more…Northern than Southern Californian

  11. the bluffs of HMB and the beach of Pfeffer…. yup.

P.S. This photo caption was quoted today in the San Diego Union-Tribune with this photo

  12. Fantastic article, you have a wonderful job! Like the solid content too:)

  13. As a frequent user of Baidu for many years, just came to know that DFJ made this happen.
Thank you! When it comes to Chinese, Baidu is much better than Google.

    quoted from San Diego Union-Tribune:
"DFJ invested $8 million for 28 percent of Baidu — the Chinese equivalent of the Google search engine — in the beginning and then a total of $5 million more in the follow-up rounds to maintain their ownership, for a total of $13 million. They were the largest shareholder."
