NASA’s Zeppelin Hangar One is a surreal backdrop for my Starburst, lit with two Aerotech Blue Thunder motors and a downward facing HD cam.

(and by coincidence, when I searched for Hangar One on my flickr stream, I found the photo essay from Rafe of our 2001 Space Oddity party inside the Hangar… and it just so happens that this launch event was Rafe’s first model rocketry outing. So it comes full circle a decade later.)

  1. Great place for rockets! Alien costumes are very intricate in the space oddity essay. Goes full circle reminds me "life is wonderful" song.

  2. A phenomenal visual!

  3. Rockets are for wimps. 😉 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_HARP
"The HARP gun team was able to fire a 180 kilogram slug at 3,600 meters per second (13,000 km/h), reaching an altitude of 180 kilometers."

And then there were the V3 "heavy crossbow" multi-chamber (Hochdruckpumpe = high-pressure-pump") "London guns" at Mimoyecques:

  4. Ha! Why stop there, just launching a dumb lump? Better to launch a rocket!
