Soaring above Hangar One at NASA Ames… our Binder Thug was perhaps the heaviest rocket of the day, and that’s not good thing when you land on the cement airfield.

The aluminum bell at the bottom bent in quite a bit, but I was able to right it with a wrench.

  1. and our Double-E rocket had an interesting mishap. Only one of the two Aerotech E15 motors lit on the pad, and she arched over sickingly off the pad:

And up in the sky, you can see the second motor coming up to pressure a full second later:

So then she flies straight as an arrow, horizontally. This is not good. In trying to pop the parachute, the nose and chute rip right off, and the airframe disappeared in the distance…. with a name and cell number inscribed on it.

  2. Beautiful blue and another cool "rocket in the sky:)

  3. Nice shot with the moon in the distance! Sorry to hear about the Double-E. Seems like there should be some way of more reliably igniting these multi motor rockets?

  4. You’re getting pretty damn good focus lock on those rockets, Steve. And I thought bees were tricky. Whew.

  5. thanks!

It is a very cool venue for a rocket launch!
