When jumping in to Half Moon Lake, the thought occurred to me that the waterfalls of melting snow in the bowl all around me were close to 32°F.

Yowsa! That was a refreshing zinger in the middle of a seven hour hike in Desolation Wilderness.

  1. Ever join a polar bear club?

  2. If you imagined you were in the dessert, it would be OK to take a dip into water that has the "faucet" on at 32°F (0°C). The mountain lakes in Québec are cool too.

    It is a gorgeous photo!
