Where the wild things are…
Perched on Chief’s Island in the Okavango Delta, Mombo gets an insane amount of wildlife. We saw a pride of 23 lions, and then 40 giraffe in one afternoon.
But they really come alive at night. The sounds of male hippos fighting at night with sharp incisors carries across the cool open expanses. Elephants, wart hog, baboon and cap buffalo cavort throughout the camp and splash about the floodplain. The frogs go through some wild patterns of synchronized symphonies interrupted at times by who knows what. And various exotic birds sing throughout the night. Like most of the Wilderness Safari camps, the tents are open air. I had the strangest dreams.
