Oh, and it terminates onto a road with a T-intersection…. a real impediment to continuous flow… and there’s no right turn on the exit (traffic has to exit left and make a U-turn).
Architecture critic moment: I find the aesthetic of these "cable stayed" bridges (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable-stayed_bridge ) objectionable…right up there with high tension electrical towers parading across landscapes. Suspension bridges need beautiful arcing lines like the Golden Gate, the West section of the SF-Oakland Bay, the Brooklyn, the Verrazano etc. Unfortunately, the new East section of the SF Bay bridge will feature this utilitarian & ugly technology ;-( which as per Tony’s comment above, was anything but cheap.
