Some of Mumbai taxi drivers think it’s a miracle that the Sea Link floats on water.

  1. yep, some industrial miracle:)

  2. Oh, and it terminates onto a road with a T-intersection…. a real impediment to continuous flow… and there’s no right turn on the exit (traffic has to exit left and make a U-turn).

  3. Interesting construction video about Mumbai bridge

Compare to 1989 earthquake retrofit on S.F. Bay Bridge estimated completion 2013

Estimated cost US $7 billion !!!
We should have hired the Indians, instead of Caltrans.

  4. Would it be the same quality for less money? Hope their rental vehicles are reliable… with all driving hazards… have a safe trip!

  5. They built this thing then just put a road on it? What a waste.

  6. Architecture critic moment: I find the aesthetic of these "cable stayed" bridges (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable-stayed_bridge ) objectionable…right up there with high tension electrical towers parading across landscapes. Suspension bridges need beautiful arcing lines like the Golden Gate, the West section of the SF-Oakland Bay, the Brooklyn, the Verrazano etc. Unfortunately, the new East section of the SF Bay bridge will feature this utilitarian & ugly technology ;-( which as per Tony’s comment above, was anything but cheap.
