Nothing like a big box of rocket engines to quicken the pulse….

Taking inventory of the reinforcements today and finishing a couple new birds. Hoping to launch an M motor with a funky pink propellant in the Sledgehammer next weekend, weather permitting…

  1. Sweeeeeet. I am sure the UPS guy love carrying around boxs with the big EXPLOSIVE tag =P

  2. to sj – ouch, i think there is your address on this box… maybe you want to hide it:)

  3. When we get a package that size, it has a vacuum cleaner in it. Like yours, I would image it too could also be launched into the heavens with the right propellant.

  4. Hope it is a bunch of AeroTech motors.

  5. Some, but I am shifting almost everything to CTI —a N1100 Moonburner, N2801 Skidmark, and Pink and Skidmark M’s… and in Aerotech, I just have a M2100 Green

    This box:
    1 Aerotech – K270W-P moonburner
    1 Aerotech – K375NW-P dual burn
    1 CTI Pro-XX – G50-15A
    1 CTI Pro-XX – G185-12A Vmax popper
    1 CTI Pro-XX – G115-13A
    2 CTI Pro-XX – I100-17A red longburn
    1 CTI Pro-XX – J140-P white longburn
    1 CTI Pro-XX – K300-P moonburner
    1 CTI Pro-XX – L935-P max impulse
6 Aerotech – Single Use G75-10M for the Epic fin motors

Cesaroni has rapidly advanced in the last couple years to have a much wider selection… and they are *much* easier to build in 54mm and 38mm. And it’s easy to dial in the time-delay. Their igniters work every time, whereas I can rarely trust the AT igniters. Having a tough time getting excited about AT these days… Sorry! Maybe you can point me to something new and exciting….. I mainly buy single-use G motors from AT.

vanita – Upgrading from the broom rides I see…

sol – I thought I had obscured it into gibberish. Can you read something there?

  6. So when delivering explosives, what is the deal..?
No married delivery men with kids…?
    (extra Styrofoam ..?)

    🙂

  7. PhotonQ…exactly my thoughts! Steve, does the UPS man always arrive with a smile on his face or is he sweating??

  8. Good question – I never seem him…. Suspecting it’s a air drop in the deep of night…. =)

  9. Doubt they put that stuff on any airplanes….!!

  10. Heh, my buddy Erik is ordering a huge CTI O3700 Skidmark, and as it drives here from Canada, they have to avoid tunnels and clear all other vehicles off bridges while crossing. Not sure I understand the logic of that last one.

  11. We make honking big engines up here ??

  12. From my phone in AMC theater cannot see the address…. theoretically it is possible.. you might get more Christmas presents….:)

  13. AeroTech Dark Matter loads are black smoke orange sparks. They are only ones with end burning motors on the market I49N, I59WN, J99N, and the L339N. In development a moon burner for the 75/7680, L1365 MetalStorm for the75/5120, a M1305 MetalStorm for the 98/7680,and a K870 Blue2 for the 54/1706. Also the N1000W is a better motor then the CTI N1100. Ken Biba flew a 98mm minimum diameter rocket on both and got 40K on the N1100 and 45K on the N1000W.

I have never had a problem ever lightning an AeroTech motor using the supplied igniter. Their delays have always been accurate. When I flew my first and last CTI load at Dairy Aire earlier this year the piece of junk fired the ejection charge two seconds early damaging my rocket.

CTI is easy like taking the easy way out. I like AeroTech because you actually have to assemble the motor. Also CTI was problems with their classic propellant reloads and having them CATO.

  14. Sol – What are you watching…. Shhhh… phones off…

    Dave – way big, eh!

A stanley: I like the end burner concept… How does it translate to performance? The Dark Matter video clips look a lot like the AMW Skidmarks:
80 ft. Fire Shower Star Fire Shower Chariots of Fire

Igniters: wow. I had four out of four AT G79 igniters fail… Generally 25% of all of them fail for me. 0% so far for CTI.

Never seen a CTI CATO, but I believe you. I read with amazement how many Aerotech J1999s CATO’ed at LDRS this year (as I read in ROCKETS… all but one, I believe).

Easy way out is pleasant when you’d rather be flying than lubing and assembling.

I’m guessing that Aerotech will need to copy Cesaroni’s manufacturing process or retreat to mid-power single-use market.

  15. Harry Potter and we went for Tangled also, very sweet and funny, fun for little people:)

  16. Wow, those rockets are more magical than any Harry Potter!

  17. The End Burners are really nice and the performance on them is really nice. They also have a nice last thurst cuver. The Dark Matter reload are like the AMW Skids but a little higher ISP. The G75M has always lit for me. AeroTech Dark Matter reloads are easier to clean up afterwards then AMW skid loads which are always pain to clean up afterwards.

The J1999N CATO’s were because of people sticking thermite igniters in the motor. But TRA made AeroTech fix "the problem" and I have flown the J1799N and it is a nice motor.

I have seen a J285 burn through the liner and casing, K445 just CATO on the pad shredding the casing, seen the M4770V-Max CATO turning the casing into like 5 pieces, N1100 Burning through 3 seconds into the burn, N1100 nozzle failing 3 seconds into the burn and list goes on.

Why does everyone like to complain about AeroTech expect for myself, Dan Micheals, and Larry Frieson.

Hope to see you at the Dec Snow Ranch launch.

  18. I’d be nervous if I was the delivery guy. 30lbs of explosives!

ps. with the tracking, found ya in about 30 secs. too much info here if’n you’re concerned. So when is a good time to drop by for cocktails? 🙂

  19. When you get deliveries like these I wonder if it puts you on the FBI and Homeland Security observation lists??? I know that when I lived in Europe I was told that we likely had FBI file. For that matter I guess for those of us that have files, we’re in good company! =)

  20. Steve?! Guess you had a deadline and couldn’t wait for Wildman’s Black Saturday sale (30% off on reloads up to 45% off on kits)? Or did you go in and buy a boat load more yesterday morning? (Got myself a Dark Star 4" Dual Deploy for $99!).

  21. Thanks for your support of our products, Steve. Your photos are amazing!

(btw CTIs Red Lightning propellant is not AMW’s formulation. It is a propellant that Mike Dennett developed.)

    Jeroen @ CTI

  22. thanks – you are welcome to use any of those photos for free if you want (per the CC attribution license I have on all of them)

DixonTJ – it was an order from a while ago… waiting for the AT long burn to arrive. =)

Dr D. – are you an agent? What have you heard??? Best to work from within… The one armed eagle flies at night. Out.

xourborus – good catch – I obscured the tracking number too.

AStanley – You are right about the M4770… I figure it’s pushing the outer envelope a bit… 😉

    Bam!

But I caught one on film and video.

  23. They clear bridges because providing emergency services on them is not easy and repairing them is really expensive, same with tunnels. Bridges are like inverted tunnels, hard to access and repair.

30Lb of low explosives/incendiaries isn’t going to destroy much, but the mad panic it causes as it does will do a lot of damage.
