Surrounded by a ring of red-ring sensors, John Underkoffler enters his tai chi-meets-cyberspace human-computer interface.

“The computer input and output are co-located. Use space as the solvent.”

I like the hidden observer… Minority Report made manifest.

The TED video just came out.

  1. what do you think the main interface will be after the keyboard and mouse? multitouch? gestural? something else?

  2. Not sure. this one requires quite a sensor net. I think one of the interesting applications for this, or perhaps a multitouch pad, could be a new approach to 3D content creation. VRML and various 3D initiatives seem to falter on the content creation side. 3D cameras and 3D authoring tools have not been easy and intuitive for the consumer. Imagine if you punted on polygons to start and had a glob of clay. Natural 3D motions could stretch and bend that into the rough shape someone had in mind. And then it could be snapped to a 3D grid with various presumed splines. The Makerbot and 3D printers are ready….

  3. Umm… Microsoft’s Project Natal will bring a simple "sensor net" for user interface.
