Just got back from a weekend of bursts and blasts.
This was my only mishap, but it made for an interesting photo. Paul and I drag raced identical cable spools. His performed as designed, deploying its parachute near the top of the frame.
My spool buckled under the thrust of an Aerotech Metalstorm motor, and went into a crazy spiral toward the launch line.. The LCO (launch control officer) and tent can be seen bottom right. No damage done, but it made me pucker (luckily I did not let go of the remote bulb trigger for the camera). There is some crazy detail in the spark periphery, which makes me want to print a poster size…
It was a dark night, with just a crescent moon, and as a cherry to the evening, the ISS passed slowly overhead, inspiring us all.
