It looks like a snake in the water as the body is submerged (never seen that before) with the neck and head straining above water. And it spends the afternoon airing out with wings spread in the sun.
Gorgeous example of male Anhingha bird (Latin name: Anhinga Anhinga) in full breeding plumage. It is sometimes known as the "Snake Bird" for obvious reasons. I have seen them as far north as Florida. Great photo Steve! Should send to Audobon…
