Canon EOS 5D Mark II

So named, as they walk on water.

This couple was nestled under a bush in the dark shade on the riverbank. I was on a boat shooting telephoto. ISO 5000 to the rescue.

  1. wow, they look great! way to keep relative focus

  2. Nice shot. Noise doesn’t seem to be much of an issue even at 5000 ISO. There are a few things that I like better on my old 5D versus the new Mark II, however.

  3. And a holiday appropriate photo at that.

  4. Aren’t these also called "Basilisk" lizards?

  5. Dr. Dad – curious as to what as I just made the switch. Bulb mode pixel noise was my only complaint, but they just released a firmware patch for that.

  6. Oh, I love these guys! Did you get to see them ‘walking on water’ too?
    Merry Christmas!!

  7. I do most of my shooting in manual mode and I generally like to shoot RAW. On occasion, however, will use Auto function to quick photos and family shots, etc and shoot jpeg. The old 5D allowed you to set RAW images as the default for manual and jpeg for the Auto function. The Mark II doesn’t do that. Tried setting up some custom settings, that is, leaving the camera default at jpeg format but then setting a custom setting in a RAW format, but then the ISO (and everything else) reverts to that default custom setting everytime the camera goes into "sleep mode". So if I am in the middle of shooting a subgect, but don’t take a photo for a minute or so I then have to reset the ISO again. Basically, I have had to set the default to RAW since that is what I shoot most of the time. I’ll just have to remember to change it to jpeg if I’m shooting Auto.

  8. By the way, he looks even more impressive after a little primping in Lightroom…..
