A cocktail party favorite at Vandenberg AFB. Just dial in the missile(s) to fire and jiggle the too left knob for each bank.

The photo I wished I had taken while driving through was the sign in front of a huge building: MISSILE REPAIR AND PAINT SHOP.

I could so use that right now. Maverick Santa’s naughy elf just got me a Q motor, and I need to anodize a huge aluminum tube bigger than myself.

Gotta scoot South now….

  1. P.S. Even the big ones go rogue sometimes…. (cool video of a Delta CATO)

Or a Minuteman Missile Before and After:

What's That? (48) All that remains

  2. Merry Christmas, Steve! Nice party decorations they have at Vandenberg!

  3. You realize that by mentioning Alu*inum T*be on the internet in the same envelope as the keyword M!SS!LE (in caps no less – Lord help us) that you just have triggered umpteen IP-sniffing supercomputers in Maryland somewhere, bells are a-jangling, and right now a battalion of civil servants is performing extensive in-depth analyses.

That reindeer-powered sleigh coming in over a snow-covered Black Mountain is however the real McCoy and not some wayward drone. So have no fear and enjoy the festivities.

  4. Very cool party items… I’ve been meaning to get up and photograph the ICBM maintenance facility just North of here for some time. The invitation is standing, I just have to find the time to work it into the schedule.

  5. A Q motor!? Now _THAT’S_ what I want to see!

  6. Close… Norse God Loki

Will take photos when I get back.

BWJones – can you bring friends?

Eppie – Right on. I hope we model future AI development on the hedonistic bisexual sisterhoods of bonobos. (flickr comment on this)

  7. Steve,

Might be able to, but I am also looking at getting clearances for one of the Shuttle launches this year… You game?

  8. This looks like it was out of a training cab. A deployed system would have front panel paint missing in a few spots. 100% of the information I know is based on open press and publicly disclosed data.
