The frame holding this photo fell apart, and I was reminded how my pre-flickr memories suffer a paucity of metadata and portability. So I figured it was time to scan it in.

Unfortunately, I have long lost the hand written notes I had from this magical dinner in the Clinton White House. I do remember that they were very interesting, as we had a tour of his private chambers with some poignant comments about his photo collection, and some funny comments about the artifacts in his office (something about the golf clubs)… and he had to step out for a moment during dinner, and we saw him on TV discussing some overseas military action that had just commenced. Then, back he strode to share in desert and discuss our non-profit topics… an amazing ability to context shift.

(looking at some files and a Clinton timeline, I believe this dinner was in early 1999 when the NATO bombing of Kosovo began)

I had the honor of attending a few dinners back in the day. I was a 21 year old, fresh-from-university nobody, but when you are nearly six feet tall and blonde with a geek’s brain to boot, sometimes people will forgive your commoner background. I remember sitting terrified at a little table like the one pictured above, trying desperately to pretend it was the most natural thing in the world for me to be there. Of all things I succumbed to a sneezing fit. O Horrors! 🙂

My exhusband kept my photographs from that period. Too bad. Thanks for bring back memories.

I hope your hope is not misplaced, for any self-respecting president looks to cultivate not only the late end of the money cycle, but the early beginning of it as well (surely, it’s about i-banking and VC, respectively).

Carville is definitely an interesting character looking to carve(sic!) out a presence in the American public consciousness. People cannot associate him with either the elder statesman, or some wise guy. It’s interesting seeing as well who Obama/Emanuel had decided (not) to recycle from the old Clinton days.

I distinctly remember an email about this (especially the "private chambers" part , and your joking suggestion that led to it) but my trusty Eudora archive has failed me. Probably lost in one of my many Eudora corruption episodes! That’s a bummer, because I recall it being fairly specific.
