Martin Eberhard, co-founder of Tesla, got a custom paint job for his roadster (the second car sold).

The orange racing stripes align with the leather seats, which are black on the edges and orange in the center.

The color choice and license plate rim left me curious, and sure enough, they look like the ”Professional” colors for the University of Illinois:

“The professional palette offers a more subtle approach with colors that are elegant, formal, and calm.”

  1. It is definitely unique! So what would YOUR colours be if you had a customized paint job?

When you come into Buck’s for breakfast, you know who is there.

  2. headed for the Bucks..! when the dust settlles

    followed the link..

    more to digest

  3. Mimosa: I tried to get a clear coat (i.e., bare carbon fiber)… The layup was not designed to be seen though

  4. You mean you would of like to have the body in its natural state? That would have been quite interesting!

  5. whoa – that looks like a perfect color match.
    I guess I should ask Martin…

  6. Looks like the Gulf Oil Racing colors

  7. A little jab at the soon to be extinct oil industry perhaps?

  8. hot colors, good eats!

  9. Taken outside Fry’s in Palo Alto the very next day:

  11. Antimatter!

    There can be just one.

  12. Ha ha, Right! I spoke with the owner… He and Martin will get their cars together for a photo op. Totally disregarding the possibility of mutual annihilation!!

Btw, "There can be only one."

  13. oops. amazing that the semantic space still resolves to highlander

  14. I suppose the concept of a contest ending in a single winner pops up a lot. Likely, the violence and drama of that contest in Highlander provides a vivid image that makes it the analogy of choice.

Someone managed to capture the two cars in the same frame:

  15. and, to make it even more spooky, they have license plates that differ by one letter!

    Possessive

Seen today at the Menlo Park Road Rally.

  16. Martin had ordered both plates, and when he decided which to keep he gave the other to the owner of the other car. I don’t think "MY TESLA" knew he was getting the almost inverse car until the car was already ordered.

It isn’t exact. One is gray+orange, and the other orange+silver.
