Sure enough, this one had a bit of a mid-air mishap… …bursting in air

  1. Yikes! One of the J motors exploded through its aluminum casing during airstart ignition. It ruptured the side of the rocket and blasted up through the body (two frames, 1/3 second apart):

    Back to the drawing board. The recovery team was in good spirits:

  2. That is quite a beautiful and well-decorated rocket perfect for the occasion! I think it may be a disappointment that it burst in mid-air but you could see it as a daytime version of the seasonal fireworks. It might be boring to have perfect launches all the time.
