  1. Lots of dust bunnies there – looks like you need a sensor clean. 😛

    Discovered using FlickrFox. (?)

  2. I think the main problem is sensor noise. I tried a low ISO, but I had to shoot for a long time (54 seconds)…. Dust on the sensor would be dark smudges, and I did not have many in the daytime shots.

Have you seen pixel noise coming from dust?

And I don’t use Photoshop, so I don’t have a good noise removal tool…. But I did a sensor clean before and after the trip…

  3. If you want to do noise removal, but don’t want to use photoshop, I’d suggest ImageJ. It is a public domain piece of software released by the NIH, used by a lot of microscopists. It gives you control over the processing algorithms, but you don’t lose the "authenticity taste" like with photoshop. It is pretty easy to use, up and running in just a few minutes.

    Hey, it’s what scientists use!

  4. OK, I was only kidding (tone of voice is hard to convey in written speech). What I meant, tongue in cheek, was that there were an awful lot of stars in the shot; ie. clear night sky, no city light pollution.

I think it’s a great shot. A little long exposure noise I guess, but you could pass most of it off as gravitational red/blue shift. The plane (I’m assuming it was a plane) streaking diagonally across your field of view is a nice touch too.

Seen in my recent comments. (?)

  5. oh my…. you made me blush

  6. wow,
    wonderful sky!
    so many stars… awesome.

  7. "One Hundred Billion Stars" ♪♫… to be precise. 😉

  8. The bonus meteorite is great! We have got to get more serious about light pollution,…..This sight should be shares by all!
I was going to sugest Imagenomic Noiseware, but with this shot, it may dull the starfield too much. I think I’ll check out ImageJ!

  10. Do you guys get the Perseid showers over there? I’ve missed them so far here…

  11. This week end was "The night of Stars" in France. Lots of people meet every year, to share, learn and discover the wonder of the Universe for 3 nights. Sad for me , the weather was not so good…we need a Black Rock Desert in France !! 😛

But i get instead a "picture" of a home-made Young Solar SYstem , so it made my day : P

The tittle "Twilight Twinkle" make me think to " The twilight zone" serie. Witch make me think to this new 6 independant episodes ‘s TvShow, i came across last week , call " Master of science fiction ", and i thought most of you may like.

Here is a trailer about the show.

The idea is the same as The Twilight zone or The Outer Limits. Masters of Science Fiction is featuring works from some of the brightest authors of science fiction, from Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein and HG Wells. And the show is hosted by Stephen Hawking. I liked the first two …not a Master show but nice enough if you like scifi ; )
