I like this one as an odd architectural abstraction

  1. It looks cosy! There is is much beauty in nature.

  2. Ah, an overnight puzzle in the making…

  3. Looks like something from James Turrell

  4. hmmm…taken on a wide angle using ambient light together with the translucency of parts of the surface, i’m guessing that you managed to get up close and personal to view a shell from its interior…

(on the other hand, it looks like it could also be a gaudi creation:) )

  5. agree with nels1 there – surely the top of the spiral stairwell in one of Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia towers? or a Matthew Barney sculpture?

  6. Bingo biotron & nels1 for the initial Gaudi connection.

Whenever I see a photographer snapping away with a SLR, I take pause. In the attic of Gaudi’s Casa Batlló, I saw a fellow with a Nikon canvassing the ribbed spines bracing the curved ceiling. It was then that I noticed a small cordoned-off nook that looked like it was designed for hobbits. I could only get a glimpse of an upward spiral staircase, so I set my camera on the floor, at full arms reach, and let it go with a 10-second timer. And this is where the white rabbit leads me.

As I left the attic, I turned and found that my muse was busy taking the exact same shot. =)

  7. Architecture like that, I LOVE! Man’s creation inspired by nature. Great find Steve!!!

  8. This is wonderful, love the colour and the shape – outstanding

  9. cool! and gaudi was just an afterthought…i was initially convinced that it was a shell!

  10. great result for sticking your arm under and guessing an exposure time! Batlló is such a superb example of extravagant, organically-inspired architecture / design.

  11. Great, great composition
