The little sea urchin on top is quite unusual. It was discovered by a research vessel near New Caledonia at a depth of 1000 ft.

what makes this such a viewed picture? Beautiful though the object is, its hardly an excellent technical piece of photography.

It’s the 582 favorites that I find interesting.

When any of my photos has popped over 100K views, it’s because of some blogosphere pointers from outside flickr. Reddit, in this case, helped it get over 400K views as of today.
