an inter-generational effort…

“Initially, the construction work was expected to last for several hundred years, based on building techniques available in the early 1900s. The construction work calls for many pieces of stone to be machined to unique shapes, each being subtly different from the next” (wikipedia)

  6. Did you climb the tower? I love the variety of design, and building styles – it forms such a patchwork. His work really is fascinating, and so organic.

  7. I wish I could light paint this one…..

  8. Creatively cropped, interesting in design and composition, and well executed.

  9. Lovely illustration of how the hand and mind of man is lifted up to praise the hand and mind of God. Soli Deo Gloria.

  14. today i received a copy of this in the post, featuring a cropped zoom of this image in on pp197!

they sent me a free copy, having asked to use this image of mine in the Renaissance section.

my pic didn’t feature in the end, so hooray for Arcturus publishing for sending me a finished copy in any case!

  15. Cool. News to me! Do you know someone there who might be able to email me a PDF of the page or something?

  17. damn, does this public admission mean i’m going to have to send the book back?! *

  18. You know, it’s a beautiful building and this is a terrific way to shoot it — but what really amazes me is the palette in this photograph. Fully saturated color to the left, then gentle greens & blues & oranges elsewhere. It’s really wonderful.

  19. Stunning ! Great angles and creativity.
