Seeing this dragster pointing right at me, I had a sense that it might launch forward. So I was ready to jump.

But I was not fast enough. The engine revved with a loud roar and the car did lurch forward into the crowd. It hit me just above the ankles and tossed me into the air. I landed behind the wheel.

The driver thinks that some kid had played in the car and put it into gear earlier in the day.

I have never been hit by a car before. Might as well be a head-on with a dragster…. =)

    You have to be VERY fast to jump out of the way of a dragster!

    It’s merely a flesh wound

    I just got some leg brusies… and scrapes to the lens hood (they make good shock absorbers when you go to ground…)

    Robbie: Yeah, especially when looking through the viewfinder. The approach is a bit alarming on wide angle… It may have helped to have the weight off my feet mid-jump.

    Glad you’re O.K. As for the "vision", always listen to those thoughts, I’ve learned. Must have something to do with those other demensions ‘floating around’ these days…lol

    Yikes! Glad you’re merely bruised and not broken. I had a "voice" tell me to change lanes once. I thought "yeah I probably should" and it sighed and said "change lanes now." I did, and avoided the truck in front of me spewing furniture all over the freeway. Moral of the story? Don’t make "the voice" sigh and tell you twice. Get out of the way.

    Oh, that is not good! You could at least have broken feet or ankles. I understand that it is always more exciting to take the best photograph in the best perspective but that can sometimes prove to be risky. I am so glad you are alright. Thanks so much for taking the risky position so we can see the car from the most impressive angle. It reminds me of those very pointy shoes some ladies wear. Hum…Can you tell us, those who know little about the subject, why the front is so long? I understand about the efficient aerodynamic shape but why so long?

    I saw a woman get hit by a car on the Stanford campus a few months ago–it was scary as hell. Glad to hear the wounds to you and your camera were superficial. (The next time a "How do I best protect my lens?" debate comes up, I’ll point them to this story of your lens hood.)

    Those dragster facts are just insane! The one about revolutions seems to calculate out, but it just blows the mind!

    /me snickers at the Garfield! Good call Alieness!

    (Edit.. Though, I do have to point out that Garfield would have a heart attack (or is that nap attack?) trying to keep up with Steve.)
