I spy with my little eye… Raj Atluru and John Foley on the 18th tee. John was the Lead Pilot for the Blue Angels and flew the opening scenes for Top Gun.

John shared some of the training and teamwork techniques that the Blue Angels use to push performance and precision to new levels. During some maneuvers at 400 knots, the wingtip of the adjacent plane was precisely 18 inches above John’s canopy.

In the lengthy post-flight debrief and safety review meetings, each Blue Angel begins with “Glad to be here.”

  1. Ah ha! Your uploader didn’t respect the quotes!

Cool story. 18 inches is just wild and crazy stuff. It seems outside the realm of human precision.

  2. Steve, it looks like your uploader tagging tool just hit the canopy!

    PULL UP!

  3. Sweet. I hope the blue Angels get some JSF’s to play with soon.

  4. strange tag burp…. I’ll leave them for now…

It comes from the annoying "Smart Quotes" in Microsoft Word. They do not transfer properly when I cut and paste into the upload field in flickr web upload.

  5. From the thumbnail it looked as if there was a dark rain cloud over their heads

  6. neat…how far can he drive from the Moon!?

    "Drive around the World"

  7. Oh that’s a funny link. The Russian Space program sure is creative in paying the bills.

As for the moon, I double checked Shepard’s moon shot video, and he thought it went "for miles and miles and miles"… He was probably bragging… =)
