Anyone recognize this big fella? The abdomen is a work of art.
it is! like a mask …
i don’t want to guess… the "id me please" flickr group is moderately good at this, though not 100% correct. might try that!
Well I think it’s an orb weaver of some kind. I think I’m going with Araneus diadematus, female.
Pretty convinced it’s in the family Araneidae…. most probably Araneus Diadematus… of which there are many…abdomen pattern variations. Bettter known as a common garden spider. …and…most creepycrawlies… when macrofied… are works of art! 😛
Gorgeous.
thanks! ID’d in under an hour. flickr rocks, again.
fotogail: I was planning on cropping down to just the abdomen. It’s some sort of tribal Sith mask…

Great shot too – climbing up a wall ?

Your silverback looks grand.
Boa foto!
The spicky spocky spiders that we have in Engand are quite boring by comparison:
Great shot.
Very awesome macro!!! I agree spiders up close can be like a work of art!! Well done! — Seen in VOICES IN THE WILDERNESS: a prayer for wild things (?)
