  1. So, what do you do with your catch? Set him free, I hope. Interesting to see up close.
Un petit lézard an ventre bleu.

  2. yes, after a gentle inspection of the colorful underbelly, I remind the boy to set it free.

This one was pretty mellow. I wonder if he had been in the catch and release program before…

  3. Letting boys being boys.
    La curiosité naturelle des garçons.

Don’t some animals sometimes become "tranquillized" in such circumstances? A fear reaction, out of self-protection.

  4. Cool shot. His (her) turquoise underbelly is interesting. I don’t recognize the species.

  5. wasn’t the catch and release program…

look at the placement of his hands….

    he’s full of blackberries!
….that’s not his natural pigmentation…that’s blackberry juice bleeding out of him!
    😛

  6. screw the blackberries! IM WITH YOU!!!

  7. That looks like the exact same fella. So the males have the blue racing stripes…

These are the lizards we have crawling all over the place. They tend to keep their bellies hidden from view….

  8. Did he try to sell you car insurance?

  9. I think he is playing dead. When I’ve caught smaller lizards in the past they would often do that. And they really seem to enjoy belly rubs.

  10. benjiman: see my comment way above. That is what I suspect. (Though I have no knowledge of this subject.)

  11. Most likely it is a Western Fence Lizard. Occasionally one makes an unsuccessful dash in front of my car as I pull into my garage. Interestingly, I recently learned these little guys may be responsible for reducing the incidence of Lyme Disease in their territory (see sidebar in link).

  12. Smart guy! I always play dead when someone turns me upside down and inspects my belly …

Oh wait, that doesn’t sound right.

  13. Oh My, I would be scared crapless to hold this liard in my hands.

  14. Personally, I’d rather catch lizards, too. (123) (?)

  15. Emerald swifts always are so docile as long as you keep them on there backs. nice shot.
