A splendid display of rockets from XPRS in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada. You can drive for miles in any direction and not hit anything, not even a pebble.

High-power rockets launched in banks all weekend long. Pads 21-25 are starting to launch, and 16-20 are ready for a reload.

This wonderful panorama was shot by my comrade Victor1 and stitched together carefully by the Alieness. Thanks for a wonderful memory of the magic!

    C O O L !!

  2. That’s so excellent. The Right Stuff, even!

  3. It looks so pretty!!!! 0-)

A great work form Vic -he makes great panos really-. It would have been a pity to lose it for the stitching difficulties -dust in the lens at each pic borders and mostly at the sky parts-. =(

Happy that I could give a hand (or a paw!) 😀

    thanks for posting it.

  4. Wow, this is great. The super large version of this image makes a cool dual screen desktop.

  5. bryan, if you did actually try it as a desktop, I´d love to see a pic of your computer with it, please.

If it was a suggestion, welcome! And welcome too anyone with two monitors who wish to show it!!!! 😀

  6. rocketscreen

    guess i take requests!

    😛

  7. Total Master, Lei!!!

  8. J the rocket powered toy master
    Victor amazing picture
    Gi** great sewing
    Leino great framing

  9. Wow – how cool is this blog! I never imagined spanning multiple monitors when I took those individual pieces but… how do you do it? My monitors only mimmick one image.

thanks for posting this steve and Alieness for the photo-fixing!

  10. Thank you Zene!!! :-****

Vic has landed! Thank YOU! I really don´t know how they make this dual monitor thing… I wish I had 2 monitors myself and try do it (remember Leino has a mac, perhaps in their OS it is simple to put one desktop in the two monitors) =)

    BAPT! 😎

That is great too! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!!

They look magnific (how funny it looks the one on the right shrinked, you can see the seals more clearly 😉

I bet Steve will enjoy this very much when he comes back. Btw, even though he didn´t confirm this with me, I think that regarding this post with the file I sent, he "enhanced" the colors making it brighter and more vivid. So I´d like to say that he didn´t say it, but in this final pano posted he collaborated too.

    Noblesse oblige.

  11. what a great stream of comments to come back to…. merci y’all!

glyph: yup, same place, but much further in the desert so as to not risk landing on any "civilians"…

As for the rocketeers, well, their Chevy’s are fair game…
    Heads up! Supersonic Inbound

We need GPS to get there. You can, in theory, point your car in any direction, put a brick on the gas and climb out on the roof with a cooler to chill for a while. There’s nothing to hit, except other fools doing the same thing…. =)

  12. Very cool. The panorama helps give a sense of the scale of emptiness (the unlucky Chevy notwithstanding!).

Re multi-monitor wallpaper spanning in XP: UltraMon will do it easily, but it costs $40.

A free alternative is to use Active Desktop. Both methods are outlined here.

  13. or … you could buy a mac.
    😛
    🙂

  14. Leino88: Indeed. Being forced to use Active Desktop is a less-than subtle reminder of how much greener the grass is on the other side (of my multiple monitor display). 😉

  15. I once drove across the Bonneville Salt Flats after the winter rains — it was a giant puddle several miles across, and >1" deep thoughout.

Driving my Chevy felt more like piloting a speedboat, as you could feel it happily hydroplaning across the surface. Wheeeee!

  16. LOL, Speedboat with no shore to hit, sweet!

Nice one Steve, love the action in the far left panel, that totally makes the shot. This is another reprise Shot? Decided which you will go to this year?

  17. this looks like a scene from mad max!

  18. We were just brainstoming about tricking out a used RV with that theme… Would need to weld a big rocket rack on the roof… Chain a spotter to the front…

    Photo just got framed! woot!
