  1. In the real world, we call these trees "arbutus" (but, perhaps they are very slightly different).

  2. Wow. Stunning colors and texture.

  3. Actually, they’re called "Arbutus" in Canada, and "Madrona" in the USA. Same tree, same scaly bits, different names. Cool shot, though.

  4. Yes, I agree. It does look like an alien’s skin!

It also looks like an exotic antique wood sculpture that got a coat of furniture polish and a good shine!

    arbutus

  5. Fiery indeed!!!

Look at those colors… wow. =)

    Arbutus… Arrayanes maybe in Spanish?

I´ve been there… ‘dreamy’ is little to say.

They say that Walt Disney was inspired there to make ‘Bambi’ like he created it. Possible, dunno if true, tho.

  6. Alien trees from Alieness’ lands…

and for the real world, we go to Canada. =)

  7. ..yea some might confuse arbutus as glutus-maximus in some cases but not hardly as a natural mahogany and I suppose alien woods are jetblack as are rosewoods?

  8. when this was burning it would have given turquoise/pinkish golden flames, very unique wood to burn. Lovely to see it preserved in your image…the green really enhances it

  9. Yeah, I always knew those as Madrona Trees. They almost look muscled under the bark. Quite alien at times, like they might grab a small forest creature!

  10. Sarchi: what did you do to that tree?
Sol1: It burns with the flickr colors? Who woulda thunk it?
    Ben: I sense a plot epiphany brewing… =)

Hey, My cousin just emailed me… This is my 1000th photo post! I had not noticed that. I would never have guessed that I would ever post that number of photos when I started. Pre-flickr, I probably took less photos than that, in aggregate…ever.

  11. AHHHH… when U get the bug….it consumes U!!!!
…just don’t ever move up here and open a studio!
