Canon EOS 5D

This lens is a real treat. It’s a funky vintage 500mm Spiratone. My buddy Victor1 lent it to me, and my first test with it was a moon shot.

It uses mirrors instead of lenses. The light path traverses the length of the barrel three times and bounces off two mirrors, so it’s fat and squat, not long and skinny (just like reflecting vs. refracting telescopes).

  1. So that’s the one from the moon shot? If so, it’s very short, I first thought there was no lens at all on the camera.
PS: does the tag "mirrors" refer to the mirrors in the lens or the mirror you used for taking this shot?

  2. wow… that is one cool looking lens… and great moon portrait as well…

    Cheers!

  3. And for what other special purpose would one use this camera? Anything at all?
