At dusk, the sea dogs circle and jockey for position, begging for table scraps of scrum from the fishing boats returning to Monterey Bay.

From their bark and behavior, the sea lion seems to be more canine than feline.

  4. They can be incredibly loud. Next time you’re in Santa Cruz, go to the end of the pier and look in the observation ‘holes’. They jump out of the water and land on the rafters – piles of them – and sleep there. In the morning its big howling festival.

  5. A bay at dusk… lovely image.

‘cingulate gyrus thang’… 😀 What reptiles know nothing about. As the wise said long ago: "They miss all the fun". =)

  6. They’ve started barking up here, and are building body barges with upturned bellies full of Spring Salmon:)great image, wonderful time of year to see them in blue Steve, tanks!
