    Thanks for the explanation – wouldn’t have figured it out without. Nice shot – nice crop too. Cropping is the most fun part of ‘developing’ digital pictures, IMHO.

    I’ll bet his shot was taken a short distance from where I live. The pink (purple) sand is garnet. Wind and water is a great sorter of like size and density particles, so sometimes this beach will be most white, sometimes more black, most times white, and almost always you can find a mix of all three. And, by the way, nice shot.

    Actually the this is from Pfeiffer Beach which is Forest Service. There is no Pfeiffer State Park. There is, however a Pfeffer Big Sur State Park, but in is along the Big Sur River and a ways from the ocean. You can also find this sand (garnet) at Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur if you walk out to where the Big Sur River meets the ocean and walk south along the beach.
