A crop of a crop of a crop… This was a photo of the beach and ocean.

One advantage of 12.8MP is the ability to grab an almost macro-scale photo from within a normal shot.

Oh, and the sand on this beach was a mélange of purple and pink like I have seen nowhere else.

  1. in a puzzle, I would have never in a million years guessed this to be sand:)

  2. so pretty, like an angel’s wing!

  3. Very nice color and texture indeed! Reminds me of mother-of-pearl

  4. From the thumbnail, I thought it was a bird’s wing.

  5. Just fascinating! I took a while to try to figure this one out before I read your description. I have been thrilled with my Point and Shoot 8 mpx, and I think that I’d be overloaded with your 12. Thanks for sharing your photos on flickr! 1-2-3

  6. Great texture and cropping !

  7. Thanks for the explanation – wouldn’t have figured it out without. Nice shot – nice crop too. Cropping is the most fun part of ‘developing’ digital pictures, IMHO.

  8. Awesome! 12.8MP!!! So this is the new CanonEOS I’m assuming.

  9. The magician revealed one part of the trick. Still there´s something missing for me at least… Where does the pink come from?

  10. I’ll bet his shot was taken a short distance from where I live. The pink (purple) sand is garnet. Wind and water is a great sorter of like size and density particles, so sometimes this beach will be most white, sometimes more black, most times white, and almost always you can find a mix of all three. And, by the way, nice shot.

  11. what beach is this? i wanna go to a beach with pink sand SO bad

  12. Pfeiffer State Park, CA. And if that was not magical enough, this is what you see when you look up:

  13. Actually the this is from Pfeiffer Beach which is Forest Service. There is no Pfeiffer State Park. There is, however a Pfeffer Big Sur State Park, but in is along the Big Sur River and a ways from the ocean. You can also find this sand (garnet) at Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur if you walk out to where the Big Sur River meets the ocean and walk south along the beach.

  14. Beautiful. I hope to make it to Big Sur this year. I used this in my blog last night ajourneymanswayhome.blogspot.com/2011/01/power-of-20-minu…
