Wow. A real SLR camera. I have never had one of those. Or a tripodโ€ฆ Or a filter (other than holding my polarized sunglasses in front of my Casioโ€ฆ)

Mixed with my excitement is a bit of trepidationโ€ฆ So far, I have only posted photos from a pocket cameraโ€ฆ No professional equipment, tripod or photoshopโ€ฆ I hope this will be as fun.

  1. Saw your icon in SF Zoo group and loved the snow in it so I clicked on it and came to this pic. I thought this was a joke at first. I was rollin’ only to find that it wasn’t a joke. Lol. I thought it was a camera ornament and then to actually see your camera. The Bomb! I only have a pocket camera as well. Still dreaming and drooling. I want a Nikon D50 or 70.

You are gonna have a blast. Get busy boy – the new year is just around the corner. Get to the Zoo so you can put some great pics in the group. [smile]

  2. Oooh. Shiny Blinky. Must appease the Inner Monkey.

  3. Who is this Santa you speak of? (Stares at lump of coal in stocking)…

    I am soooooo jealous!!!

  4. Steve, all you need to do is PRETEND its a pocket camera. I know you can do it!
    ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Those candles reflected in the lens are a great detail…

I am re-happy for you (!!!!) and sure you will master it. How could it be otherwise? =)

In fact, this is quite a gift for us all, isnยดt it? Enjoy and share the happy outcomes. You know, there is where ‘perfection’ resides. =)

oddwick: good to see you back. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. How Did You Get a Red & Black Strap. I Waana It. All THe Very Best. X Great Shot. I Can only use Cameras Like this. I suppose it is weight + Frame Through Glass.

  7. WOW! What a great gift! I’m looking forward to seeing many cool photos from you using that wonderful camera, Steve! Congratulations!

  8. Suweet! I was hoping for one too…maybe 2006. Congrats and enjoy!

  9. I just recently got one just like it! I’m kind of at a loss as to WTF to do with mine as well. Let’s hear it for auto focus! Woo!

  10. A 5D!
    Congratulations on the full-frame sensor.

  11. Dude you’re in there! Now you can get super fast lenses (f 1.8) for indoors, shoot at 800 and have great quality. Nice.

Is it a 5D or 20D? What lens is that?

  12. Oh, please lose the "HEY EVERYBODY, I AM AN LOUD FRIGGIN AMATEUR" ‘camara strap’ pronto please. Thanks ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you must ‘strap’ it, go for tastefully small and black.

  13. Now we’ll have to compare the Canon’s photos with the Nikon D70s. Does your tripod have a "level" meter?

  14. Someone was very good during the year!
    A 5D! I’m stuck with the poor man’s 20D.
That’s a great lens and tripod too.

BTW that has to be the most uncomfortable strap I’ve every owned .. replace with Op/Tech Super Classic Strap with Pro Loop connectors.

  15. So, aw shucks… I was most excited about the nifty red strap… oh well… =)

drona: yes it has a level… and I actually used it when setting up on a steep area. It’s nice to have a tripod that stays sturdy to 7 feet.

Victor: 5D with the full-frame 35mm CMOS sensor… with more pixels than I know what to do with… As for the lens, it’s a general purpose aspherical 28-300mm Tamron with some macro capability too.

Mo: yup, mo features, mo problems

  16. Wooo have fun!!!
I know that mixed feeling very well. I went from a canon ixus 700 to my very first DSLR (Canon 350D) in a pretty short while ๐Ÿ˜€

  17. I may have that same ball head and legs. That ballhead is a pain in the butt, but is precise. The legs are heavy as heck!

  18. Sooo cool, bien sure! …waiting for a comparison shot from all your gadgets….

I have a piece of bamboo that serves as a monopod…no good for self portraits…waiting to see "You"

  19. Santa, you bastard! Wrong house! Wrong State! Wrong, wrong wrong!

Looks like my camera sitting on my tripod, only with 25% of the digits on it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Just try not to drop it!

  20. Ooh, missed this fun! Nice santa, yah. I’m saving up for the SLR, but the large size has me thinking too… We need anti-refraction nano constructs to get f/28 on pocket cameras, you can get us those, right? LOL

Sweet shot with the reflection, most certainly.

  21. Looks like Santa totally rocks for you this year!
I saw this in Themed Weekly Contest
