I snuggled into bed, and what did I see?
A fine six-legger looking back at me.
Spring has brought me such a nice surprise;
Insects posing right before my eyes.

Holding a tuft of dust, I thought he was dead,
But with a touch, he flew off instead.

  1. I would have had a mini-heart attack and probably would have gone and hidden in another room until someone moved said bug out of my bedroom…

Love the title and the caption is even better. 🙂

  2. Photographer-poet! We surely are lucky to have you here to entertains us in both picture and words. Great capture!

(and iv0, I truly can’t imagine you hiding from anything)

  3. Great shot and caption! ALIVE! Who woulda known indeed!

Love those through the glass shots.

  4. Cool macro of the camouflage bug. I love how their heads seem to be nothing but eyes and snout.

Are the two short things behing his/her main wings wings as well? I never noticed those.

  5. Yep; All insects have four wings (or zero).

    Great shot!

  6. Esculpted poetry… I love when you bring out the poet in you and let it shine. Bedside winged, six-leged creatures may be the cause.

    Nice paperwall… 😉

  7. Everything about this is FINE! Gotta fav it quick, before it flies away!

  8. thanks y’all.

Ben: it’s not shot through a glass, if I understand what you mean. I am sitting in bed doing a freehand macro. Nothing could faze this guy.

David is right. those little paddles are vestigial wings. They are not visible when the main wings are tucked back. But with a camera, you can see them when they are flying. =)

  9. Hmm. What is the corner we see going down the middle of the photo, top to bottom? From the orientation, it looks like you’re shooting upwards through somehing.. Maybe shooting into a mirror?

Maybe he was doing a headstand on your bed? A mystery!

  10. Ben, I think it is the corner of the room, slightly out of focus due to DoF.

  11. Gwen has the right vision. The bottom right of the frame is the corner of a marble table. (no mirrors, smoke, or glass)

Alieness: yeah, the color scheme does not quite work with this traditional camo…. It’s so hard to evolve into suburban camo colors….

  12. A Texas mosquito
    came to tell you hello.
    Greetings from home
    old friend
    where have you been?

  13. nice shot.. these insects don’t scare me at all…. ,but I guess I want feel happy to see one @ my bed time.. sure I’ll be ready to fight =)…well, they come to you instead of you go to them.. lucky guy =)

  14. For those that might be interested, I think this is a Crane Fly. And iv0 doesn’t need to worry about this one, the adults don’t even eat. They hatch from the pupated state, mate and die.

  15. Great shot of this beautiful crane fly.

  16. What a lovely creature… but seeing it over my bed would probably give me the squeemies jeemies…

  17. What a beautiful shot….
