(a freehand macro photo comparison to a similar Casio shot in February. Thoughts?)

  1. beauiful macro! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Gorgeous macro !

I like them both but if I had to choose between the two I would choose this one.
Less green, more colour and closer view of the unique hooks on the petals.

  3. As a happy Casio owner, it pains me to agree that this photo from your new Panasonic is indeed better all-around. ๐Ÿ™‚

Interestingly, the Panasonic at 200 ISO (this photo) doesn’t look noisier than the Casio at 100 ISO. But both are great and each has its strengths…like time travel, as atanas noted. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. better photo or not, the panasonic is generally pricier than its casio counterpart.

this is one of my favourite flowers, in my favourite lily colour as well! =)

  5. I love the title. This one looks crisper, but it could be the focus and the difference of light. I like both of them ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Is it ok to compare using a 7 megapixel cam against a 5.5 mpx (or 5 donยดt remember)? …Shouldnยดt a macro always look better -shaper clearer cleaner- at a 7 mpx resolution than at 5.5?

I am just asking. I donยดt truly know.

  7. This one is better defined, lighting is as well different and colors are less contrasted

  8. I like the first one better. The angle is better (in my mind), and there is just something about the first one that I like. Maybe it’s the softness, or the lighting.

  9. I like this one better, but my impression is the other one was harder on the camera because the light was more uneven and contrasty, wich led to underexposure in some areas and perception of less color depth.
@Gi: At this size, the megapixel number shouldn’t make a lot of difference. Some 5 or 6 mp could even outperform 7mp sensors because of lower noise, hence, the image is perceived as sharper (that’s a tipical advantage of slr sensors).
If you think about it, the mp number is about the surface of the sensor (side x side, i mean), the real perceived increase between 5 and 7 mp is tiny. Color and shadow depth, contrast and lens quality are far more important.

  10. thanks for that input, Max ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. Alieness: both the Panasonic DMC-FX7 and Canon EX-Z55 are 5mp, I believe (despite the misleading names!). ๐Ÿ™‚

Maximo: your point about megapixels not being all-important is a good one. For most purposes, I’d prefer a camera with a better lens to one with 20% or 30% more pixels.

  12. beautuful macro. Nice brite colors.

  13. Very special!

Dances with Moths: has more atmosphere, depth, mystery

tickle: is cleaner, lighter brighter, if you want a botanical record

I like the first more, you’ll have to do a duplicate shot for a real comparison though.

Both are in the Ultra class!

    — it’s fantastic the way the camera appears to zoom in through the lower petals, kind of bee’s eye view, landing gear down

  14. I am learning a lot today.

    THANK YOU. =)

  15. complexify, I agree about the lens v megapixels, that’s why I got the 2mp Nikon 2200 with Nikkor lens, still learning, but sometimes I think I get a "Nikon" result;)

  16. Having a top-end camera is not needed nowadays to get great pictures, 5-7 mpix in many cases is not really needed.

The winning photo of Finnish Nature Photo 2005 competition was taken by Canon Powershot A70, a 3.2 mpix consumer digi.

  17. The detail on this is stunning considering that it was hand held shot….very crisp….and quite intriguing to view…

    WELL done, Sir…!

  18. I cant say it enough I love stargazers.
