Bingo Rocketeer + SSS8, and welcome to the new guessers. Rocketeer: You amaze me with the sheer consistency of your correctness. =)
This is a photo from an airplane of the hypersaline Great Salt Lake in Utah, with colorful bands of algae and diatoms.
The lake covers 1,700 square miles but has a maximum depth of about 35 feet. It’s typically 3 to 5 times saltier than the ocean and fish free. The phytoplankton blooms in January followed by several species of diatoms.
Here is a movie of an “extreme telephoto” zoom into the nearby stadium.
Thanks, Steve. Sometimes you put some really difficult ones out there that I wouldn’t have a chance to solve until someone else makes a stab at it that is on the right track…. so I can’t take all the credit! Way to go SSS8… welcome to Steve’s world!
BTW, that was a cool video you attached to your message.
