She dreams of electric dinosaurs. Sculpture by Joe Andolina, made from Silicon Graphics computer boards.

The thinking cap is from Estonia, a speaker gift for the Visioonist business conference in Pärnu.

The hip glasses were the subject of puzzle 42.

They are an early prototype of user-adjustable eyeglasses from Adaptive Eyecare, a U.K. based company seeking to provide inexpensive vision correction for the billion people that need still it (according to World Health Organization estimates).

Using elastic mylar lenses filled with a highly refractive silicone oil, they created $5 glasses that the user can adjust for each eye, without an optometrist or expensive lens grinding infrastructure. One product fits all, and can even be shared.

  1. Very stylish, I like the combination! I would be frightened to meet this fellow in the market though. *grin*

  2. Which was the name of the original story on which "Blade Runner" was based? It has to do with the photo or sculpture title, doesn’t it?

  3. Yes.

I have gotten to know Phil Dick’s daughter. He is an amazing author…. Minority Report, Blade Runner, Total Recall, Paycheck, etc.

For the android made of recycled SGI chips, well, she has nightmares of T-Rex chasing her….

  4. Maximo, it is called "Do androids dream of electric sheep?", by Phillip K. Dick.

Awesome glasses. I had no idea this technology existed.

  6. How weird, I just saw your post Steve. Sorry for repeating.

  7. Wired just picked up a story about this lens technology. How does it feel to always 2 months (or more) ahead of the tech press Steve?

  8. Wow, I have never seen this before. I kinda figured the components of the puzzle, but since I have never heard of such a thing, would never have guessed it.
