I drive over this thing every day of my commute, and thought it was time to stop and take a closer look at this gash in the fog. I was inspired by Peter Kaminski’s wonderful ensemble of satellite images, especially this one of SLAC.

  1. Hey Peter: you could start a whole new puzzle genre, "Flickrcaching", where you post one of your satellite images and rely on the Flickr community to get the ground shot. Seems like this has happened twice already….

  2. Great shot, Steve! And it reminded me I still had this shot of the San Mateo bridges in the camera, and that I should download it and post.

I love that you captured the hills in the fog, too — the fog and hills in Silicon Valley yesterday were striking (as long as you weren’t trying to fly).

Flickr geocaching sounds like fun, making people drive and hike hither and yon! 🙂

I think of them as shots of the same thing, from different perspectives or with different aspects, like spaghetti road matchup or even like Atlas, which compares with Jason’s.

One of my wish list items for Flickr is some better way to collect and compare pairs or groups of related photos, but maybe we should have an "Aspects" or "Perspectives" group as a start.

Hey, clicking on the public "slac" tag gets this great view from the inside!

  3. Every time I drive past this, I wish there was a big yellow road sign that reads" Caution: Particle Crossing"

  4. LOL.

Well, it does have a "Yield" sign, noted above.
