At ACC2004, Linden Labs and EA/Maxis showed off some of the latest fun in digital worlds. In Second Life, an online world with player-generated content, some folks thought it would be great to have alien abductions, so they created these two guys…

“The light shines down, you get sucked up into the UFO, and get an anal probe. Victims get a t-shirt commemorating their abduction, making it a coveted right of passage.” (Rosedale)

Like the camera flare overlays, I’m sure this helps make the online world more “real”.

  1. alas… rumors flow faster than water… victims can´t keep silent!

  2. Hey! I do protest. Wasn’t sucked, didn’t had that probe thing, neither the T-shirt.

    Wasn’t even abducted o_O!

  3. OC, happy to hear that!!!

Means that the 2.0 version of our forgetting pill was successful in you!!!

Sorry, for the lack of t-shirt, you right. We run out them that day.

But we did da probe, anyway… |-)

  4. on the way back we were talking about the parrallels between second life and burningman, and then someone mentioned that someone has created the man inside second life. Then it occured to me that people may re/create burningman in successive years, right next to each other.

also it won’t be too long before GIS terrain data and city stuff is poured into Second Space, where people can start playing with real world data (e.g. twin towers frozen in time).

It would be just like Vyger from the first start trek.

  5. no fair… I can´t follow you… what/who is "burningman"? 0-(

  6. One of many websites.

It’s a gathering out in the middle of the desert. Everything has to be carried in.

    Many pages of pictures.

  7. "oh, that is crazy. And how would they do to get that big man in flames into a computer?"

  8. wow… a 6.5-year old thread, and the photo now shows up in a UK basic overview of alien abduction… |-)

  9. It’s impressive there exists a moment in past that is "108 months ago"… and we were here talking alien probes back then (already)!

  10. so many probes, so little time… And with spiraling healthcare costs, they are getting so much more complicated… Alien Abduction
