At the Computer History Museum reception, Gates mingled in front of the wooden Apple 1, with the banner over his head: “The Two Steves”

Earlier, he stated: “Microsoft has had clear competitors in the past. It’s good that we have museums to document them.”

  1. That quote is going to end up in the books! lol…

  2. Which is the other Steve?

    There is only one.

  3. Oh, tks for telling me. So I should rewrite my sentence:

FOR ME there is only one.

    =)

  4. evil man

    😀

ok maybe thats a bit harsh

  5. "Which is the other Steve?"

    Woz and Jobs surely.

  6. Wozzy and Jobs babyyyyyyy!!!

  7. I think you mean Apple I.

  8. Thank you for saying "I think"
It’s a fair assumption, given the Apple ][ that followed. Apple I seems to be the most common form in modern parlance, but the original operating manual (below) and cassette interface manual said Apple-1.

  9. Don’t mind the lysdexia. He’s logged hundreds of spelling, grammar and technical corrections on Filckr and Wikipedia. Turns out that the comments have annoyed some people along the way.

  10. Too bad his comment that ‘MS used to have competitors’ couldn’t be part of the determination whether MS was a monopoly. Hey, I just realized that the abbreviation for Microsoft and Multiple Sclerosis is the same… and so is the effect on the ‘host’, whether that host is a computer, its users or the society now paralyzed with MS products. 😉

  11. Not a very happy comparison, but geez, how smart and precise!

The taste of irony is so special. >:-)

  12. Alieness, this is the ‘other’ Steve:

Very cool guy, used his charm and a second hidden lazer pointer to fool a group of engineers (for a few seconds) into thinking that the beam was going through his head! 🙂

  13. Why is it that a guy that has that much $/brains/luck/whatever you wanna call it, ALWAYS looks like he just got out of bed and didn’t comb his hair?!!!? Almost every photo of the man I’ve seen AND when I saw him speak at Comdex a bunch of years ago… He’s just such a damn slacker! If anyone can hit Bill up for me… tell him he can hire me "cheap" as his personal stylist!!!!

  14. Mo: yeah, WTF. And we thought Melissa was gonna do an extreme makeover on him…

gocarrt: 6502 with a BASIC interpreter…. bliss. My first computer was very much like yours. I had to hand press 4kbit DRAM DIP chips one by one to upgrade from the stock 4K version (8 chips to get 4K bytes) and some were ruined by static…

I remember being proud when my programs used all of the available memory. It was like reaching the end of the flat earth…. Who could ever need more…. 😉

  15. I don´t have my Commodore 128 plugged to a TV set for it is addictive. But still works. Still have those hundreds floppy disks.

    128 kb RAM.

But no games ever after were as cool as those ones. =)

Don´t you feel **so** identified with this? I do. =D [audio beware]
