An abandoned mine in Madrid, New Mexico, the tiny mining town along the Turquoise Trail to the Santa Fe Institute. Both are very cool places.

  1. Oh wow… how far back did that tunnel go? (pretty far I assume) I would be afraid to go even that far in… Great photo!!

  2. not too far. back around the corner a bit to a collapsed part. The support beams looked pretty makeshift, more of an art than a science…

  3. ive ben in way deeper than that go to my web its:www.deep.com

  4. its rilly cool look it up

  5. yep, gotta be wary of those old supports, be they wood or steel.

can you imagine having to stoop while doing hard labor digging those tunnels? Sheeesh.

  6. Years ago, I wandered into an "abandoned" mine near Randsburg, CA. A guy showed up with a shotgun …. I don’t do mines any more. =8-o

  7. I used to do underground coal mine surveying. One day when I was whinging about having to work in a 4mtr high road, the old surveyor told me to shut up, be thankful, because in some places, the coal seam is narrower then a shovel blade is wide, which is bad if you take your shovel in the wrong way.
    He wasn’t joking at all.
People mine in the silliest of places.
