last night: “I just want to live long enough to see the mass driver on the moon. Because that’s going to be incredibly epic.” — Elon Musk, Video Clip

We also got our first view of the 100kw AI Mini Sat with solar panels and heat radiator to scale (below). The heat radiator for passive cooling is smaller than some suspected, and the overall t-shape design is exactly as Grok suggested it should be many months ago when I was asking it about heat rejection in space. “And that’s just the Mini version. We expect future versions to go to the megawatt range.”

The SpaceX/Tesla/xAI collab will build a D3 AI chip optimized for space; it will be designed to run hotter to minimize radiator mass and be robust to a higher soft error rate.

Elon opened with: "We have an announcement to make: the most epic chip-building effort by far." Goal: adding a trillion watts of compute, 2x the entire U.S. electricity market, every year. A new 2nm fab to build ~1 billion AI chips/year. Most will be in space because of power constraints on Earth.

  1. for a sense of scale, with solar panels unfolded vertically, and heat sink horizontally:

Radiator is orthogonal, radiating heat from both sides to deep space

    The chips Terafab will fab:

    Welcome to the future

  2. Dear children, Bravo. Stanley Kubrick & Arthur C. Clarke 😉
