Blue fluorite is a rare, vibrant variety of CaF₂ that forms in hydrothermal veins, with slow cooling forming large cubic crystals due to its isometric crystal structure. The blue hue comes from exposure to natural radiation (uranium in nearby rocks) displacing electrons, or in some cases, partial replacement of yttrium for Ca in the matrix. Sadly, it is popular for mythical and moronic metaphysical properties; the ”genius crystal” dominates google search results.

The cubes have a wonderful textured bevel on each side, and the surfaces are stepped with staircase-pattern textures. It came from the Las Monjas pocket, or "Geoda de Las Monjas," a find from May of 2010 that produced some of the most exceptional examples ever discovered in the La Viesca Mine.
